Protecting California’s environment by fighting to protect California’s preeminent environmental law - the California Environmental Quality Act or CEQA.

Protect CEQA opposes all attempts to weaken or circumvent the California Environmental Quality Act. Special interest groups are lobbying year after year in Sacramento to propose legislation against CEQA. Many city and county municipalities, working in conjunction with developers, are taking drastic steps to work-around CEQA and dilute community involvement.

Protect CEQA is dedicated to protecting California’s environment and fighting for a healthy, sustainable future for the Golden State. We are strong advocates for community involvement and transparency in the public approval process. Become a member today and help Protect CEQA!

Our Focus

Transparency - In today’s political environment, more and more government agencies are seeking Negative Declarations (Neg Dec) to Environmental Impact Reports (EIR) in order to streamline the approval process for proposed development projects. Agencies are making access to information about these proposals more difficult to obtain.

EDUCATION

An informed public is an engaged public. Many people are unaware of the importance of CEQA and its significance for their community. The weakening of CEQA means that potential harmful and impactful development will more easily be approved.

MOBILIZATION

An engaged public working together can move mountains! In development or legislative fights, people are often made to feel isolated or alone. However, with greater transparency and broader education, people find they have shared concerns and values.

ADVOCACY

Elected officials are people too! When residents take action by voicing their concerns directly to their elected officials, they listen. Public involvement is at the core of CEQA. Advocating for the protection of your community and the environment is your right as a citizen.
